Custom Howdah Revolver

Over the last couple of years I have spent as much time as possible with good friend Lee Jurras who was sick with cancer. Lee passed away on April 24th, 2017. Before he died he asked me to bring out a couple of special series. One was a Lee Jurras Memorial and the other was to bring back his Howdah pistols that he came out with in the late 1970s. In case you are not familiar with the Howdah, it was a large caliber handgun the tiger hunters carried when riding in the hunting box on top of an elephant. Quite often the tiger would leap up on the elephant to get at the hunters and the Howdah was the close range thumper for that. Lee's Howdahs were single shot pistols in large calibers based on the Contender. If memory serves me there were 60 of them sold. Our Howdah pistols come in 2 forms. The original single shot pistols built on the Thompson Center G-2 frame and the larger calibers on the TC Encore frame. We also have a very special Howdah revolver built on our own frames. We build them in large calibers on our blued stretch frame and the medium calibers on our beefy middle size frame.

When we decided to do these series last spring I ordered 100 flattop medium size frames cast along with 100 of our stretch frames, both in blue. Our medium size frames are slightly bigger and beefier than the standard Ruger frame size. The stretch frame is the same size as the bigger frames we have built over the past 15 years. They are for the longer cartridges, 500 S&W, 460 S&W, 430 GNR, 411 GNR,375 GNR, 445 Super Mag etc.

The Howdah shown was  the prototype of the new Howdah revolver that is chambered in the 430 GNR, which is the 460 S&W necked down to 44,  a very powerful cartridge and good for anything on this planet. These Howdah revolvers will be built in the caliber the customer chooses. The customer gets to pick the caliber, the barrel length, the grips, the finish, and the serial number. A true full custom revolver. Not all of these guns will be built on the stretch frame. Some will be built on the medium size frame which is still larger and beefier than a Ruger Super Blackhawk frame.  Like the larger frame the medium frame will be a beefy 5 shot cylinder. Those will be perfect for any of the smaller calibers up thru the 510 GNR or 500 Linebaugh, your choice. I am keeping the price reasonable so it is not out of reach of most shooters. The guns will be priced at $2995 each.
